No doubt that it was another incredible matchday of the UEFA Champions League. Many goals were scored from unexpected games. There were games that were full of surprises and some that were very tight. Here are the results of matchday three of the UEFA Champions League.

Tuesday Early Games

First couple of games brought in some surprising scores. Shakhtar Donetsk hosted German club Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Ukrainian club came in as favorites after defeating Real Madrid away and tying with Inter Milan. They came leading group B with four points. The Germans came in with two points, but were playing better than what the points in the table showed. From the get-go, Borussia Mönchengladbach dominated the game. They ended up humiliating the Ukrainians 6-0 at their own home. Alassane Pléa scored three goals and was the player of the game.

Atlético Madrid visited Lokomotiv Moscow in an entertaining match. The final score was a one all draw. The Spanish side played very well, but could not find that winning goal late on. Atlético Madrid sit second place of Group A while the Russians sit in third.

Later Games On Tuesday

Unquestionably, the biggest surprise on Tuesday night was the devastating loss Atalanta suffered by Liverpool. The English club scored five goals and conceded none. They just dominated the game and demonstrated why they are heavy favorites to win this tournament. Bayern Munich defeated RB Leipzig away 6-2. This game was tied two all with 15 minutes left, then it took a shift towards the Germans. They ended up scoring four goals in the last minutes of the game.

Next, Manchester City defeated Greek side  Olympiacos at home comfortably three goals to none. The exact same score was seen between FC Porto and Olympique de Marseille where the Portuguese side took the victory. AFC Ajax visited Danish side FC Midtjylland with only 17 players. The club was hit with a Covid-19 outbreak in the club. Nonetheless, AFC Ajax won the game two goals to one.

Finally, the most evenly match saw Real Madrid defeat Inter Milan in a tough match. The Spanish giants won three goals to two and now have some breathing room. They looked to be in trouble if they would’ve tied or loss the match. They are in third place with four points, one point behind the leaders of the group, which is Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Wednesday Early Games

Indeed, the surprises kept on coming as Manchester United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Turkish side İstanbul Başakşehir F.K. The Red Devils played very bad in defense and things are not looking good for them. They had suffered a defeat this past Sunday at home to Arsenal. Solskjær’s future at the club doesn’t look very promising as the games keep on rolling.

FC Zenit Saint Petersburg hosted Italian club S.S. Lazio which ended in a one all draw. The Italians drew the match right at the late stage of the match. This draw puts S.S. Lazio in second place of Group F with four points.

Later Games Of Wednesday

FC Barcelona hosted Ukrainian side FC Dynamo Kyiv where Lionel Messi added to his history of UEFA Champions League goals. He now has 117 goals scored in this competition, 13 goals behind all time leader Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese superstar did not score against Ferencvárosi TC, but his club Juventus won the match 4-1. Álvaro Morata is in fine form as he scored twice for the Italian club. The Spanish striker now has four goals in three matches of the tournament.

Belgian side Club Brugge KV, lost at home to German side Borussia Dortmund three to cero. Wonderkid, Erling Håland, scored twice and now has four goals in the competition. He has scored in all three matches that he’s played. 10 men Sevilla defeated Russian side FC Krasnodar three goals to two. The Spanish club was behind but came back to seal an important win at home.

English club Chelsea defeated French side Stade Rennais F.C. comfortably three goals to cero. Recently acquired Timo Werner scored twice and helped his team lead Group E with Sevilla. Both clubs now have seven points and look clear favorites to advance to the next round.

Lastly, German sensation RB Leipzig defeated French giants PSG two goals to one. The French club were leading the game in just six minutes from a goal from Angel Di Maria. Former PSG player Christopher Nkunku tied the match just before halftime. 12 minutes into the second half, Emil Forsberg scored from the penalty spot which was the winning goal. 12 minutes later Idrissa Gueye was sent off. Just before the game ended his teammate Presnel Kimpembe was also sent off. This result sees PSG land in the third spot and in trouble.

Another Exciting Round Of Games

All in all, Matchday 3 gave us various surprises in matches that did not seem likely. It is pleasant to see unthinkable teams to be on top after three matches played. It is refreshing and no doubt the competition will bring more surprises when it resumes on November 24.
