With spring time coming up and flowers blooming in the air, no wonder people are cheery. For high school students that means one thing, prom Night. Between March and May, Junior and senior high school students get ready for their high school prom. Some believe it is a night to reminder and others feel it is a way of saying goodbye to your high school past. With COVID kicking in and canceling everything, proms were cancelled for 2020 leaving students devastated. Though things are up in the air for 2021 prom season, I would like to stroll throw prom in the cinema. To me these are my top films for prom.
Carrie (1976)
Who can forget that climatic scene of the gym burning down. Outcast Carrie White is the girl no one likes or even accepts. Not to mention suffering an abusive home life. But when she is asked out by the most popular boy in school to the prom, she feels her life is about to change. Until she is pranked at being the prom queen with pigs blood being dumped on her. This is one night that certainly no one will forget. And I mean no one!
She’s All That (1999)
All around student and athlete Zach Siler has been dumped by his popular and mean spirited girlfriend. In order not to lose his cool, he convinces his friends that he can turn anyone at school into the ultimate prom date. Not to mention trying to turn his date into queen of the prom. Zach then comes across art student Laney Boggs who turns to be a bigger challenge that he thinks. Soon Laney’s transformation is not only a success but Zach soon finds himself falling for her. My Fair Lady meets modern day Los Angeles, this film is certainly a classic of its own generation.
American Pie (1999)
Prom night, the night no one forgets. For four best friends this certainly won’t be the case. Four guys make a pact to lose their virginity before graduation on prom night. This hilarious flick is definitely a classic. From a failed video attempt by mistake to unfortunate incidents revolving relationships, to unexpected relationship. Not to mention the casual mention of band camp and MILF’s. This movie is definitely like “warm apple pie.”
Pretty in Pink (1986)
Boy meets girl. Boy’s from the popular crowd and girl is from the other crowd. This classic John Hughes film faces the pressure of all high school students especially in romance. Molly Ringwald is Andie, a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who falls for Blaine. Who is one of the richest and most popular boys in school played by Andrew McCartney. Peer pressure leads them to fall apart but get back together at Senior Prom. Jon Cryer, James Spader, Annie Potts, and Harry Shearer also star.
Grease (1978)
Summer Loving happened so fast with Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsen. Until school came along and social circles came to separate the lovers. Either Danny becomes an all around American jock or Sandy becomes a greaser girl. But all ends well as they end up together as they both sing “You’re the one I want.”
Blockers (2018)
Prom night is a night usually no one forgets. For three parents, this is certainly a night that they won’t forget. Three parents stumble upon their daughters pact into losing their virginity on prom night. The hilarious flick involves car chases, vomit showers, butt chugging and so much more in this hilarious flick.
Prom Night (1980)
A serial killer on the loose at the prom, that’s normal right? In this cult classic, a killer seeking revenge makes his target at the annual prom. Disco and stabbing, that is definitely what makes a memorable prom. Starring scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis in one of her film debuts.
10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
High school popular girl Bianca Stratford would give anything to go on one date. Problem is she can’t date until her sister Kat decides to start dating. Bianca’s friend Camera sets his journey to find Kat a boyfriend and finds an unlikely match in Patrick Verona. What Patrick soon finds himself falling for Kat and she as well.
The Prom (2020)
Prom is supposed to be for everyone right? A bunch of theater stars ban together and travel from New York to a small town in Indiana to help a girl go to prom with her girlfriend. Though not everyone is on board. This star studded cast has no problem providing entertainment throughout the whole film with unstoppable numbers.
Never Been Kissed (1999)
Not a lot of people don’t get the chance to repeat high school. For reporter Josie Geller, she get’s the chance to redo high school while going undercover. Thought her mission, she transforms from her former geek self to a sexy popular chick winning prom queen in the end. But problem arise during work she falls for one of her teachers. Her work problems then turn into her real problems but must figure it all out before she is finally kissed!
Prom Night (2008)
Senior Donna Keppel is ready for the night of her life with her boyfriend and best friends. Everything is a dream until her ex teacher shows up trying to get her. As donna tries to escape her crazy teacher, her peers must suffer the consequence in this thriller.
Prom (2011)
Disney’s cute teen flick centers of a bunch of high school students navigate plans for prom. Some deal with heartbreak and betrayal and other finds love in someone unexpected. For those looking for something cheesy and cute to watch, this is the flick.
Footloose (1984) (2011)
No prom? That is not a possibility. Newcomer Ren McCormack is set the change/ break the rules when he finds out dancing is against the law due to a past incident. With help from the preachers daughter Ariel, Ren not only changes lives but brings excitement to the town of Beaumont.
