On Tuesday, February 23, 2021, Famous PGA golfer Tiger Woods was involved in a terrifying car crash in Los Angeles, California. Woods was the driver and only person in the car. He was driving a Genesis GV80 SUV. The 45-year-old star underwent emergency surgery and the medical staff at Harbor-UCLA Medical had to repair damage in Wood’s right leg. His injury miraculously was non-fatal, but it was pretty close to Wood’s near-death. After the surgery, Woods woke up and was awake and alert in his hospital room. At 7:12am PT, the LA County Sheriff’s department received a 911 call that there had been a rollover accident on the boarder of Rolling Hills Estate and Rancho Palos Verdes. The driver of the vehicle had been traveling north on Hawthorne Boulevard and sustained major damage. The driver was later revealed as Tiger Woods.
How Woods was found by First Responders in the Crash
Deputy Carlos Gonzalez was the first to reach Woods at 7:18 a.m. about six-minutes after the 911 call. Woods could not stand and was stuck inside the vehicle. He was still talking and remained aware of his surroundings. Gonzalez then asked Tiger what his name was and he said, “Tiger.” Being the famous golfer that Woods is, Gonzalez recognized him as his body camera was on when he found Woods. Initial reports stated that the ‘Jaws of Life’ were used to free Woods, but in this case they were not. Hydraulic tools that can be used to pry or cut automobile wreckages were. The rescue group chose for a more traditional way, they used an ax and a pry bar to break the windshield. Woods was then taken out of the vehicle on a backboard.Emergency Surgery
Woods underwent emergency surgery Tuesday to repair major damage to his right leg and ankle. He had multiple open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of his right tibia and fibula, (the two main bones) in the lower leg. The bones were stabilized by a rod into his tibia. He also suffered injuries to the bones in his right foot and ankle, which were controlled using screws and pins to the muscle and soft tissue in his leg. The doctors also had to surgically release the covering of his muscles to relieve the pressure due to swelling. “Mr. Woods suffered significant orthopedic injuries to his lower extremity that were treated during emergency surgery by Orthopedic trauma specialists at Harbor-UCLA Medical, a level 1 trauma center,” Anish Mahajan, chief medical officer & interim CEO, said. What We do Know…
While there are still many unanswered questions, here are some that we do have answers to: *Woods will not be facing any charges as they ruled this as an “accident, not a crime” *The Police checked for alcohol & other signs of substances and “none were found” *Woods was wearing a seatbelt, which probably contributed to saving his life! *The investigation into the crash itself may take several days or even weeks to completeHistory
Woods was born on Dec. 30, 1975 to parents Earl and Kutilda Woods in Cypress, California. The first letter “E” represents his late father’s first name (Earl). Meanwhile, the last letter k represents Kultida’s first name. His birth name was Eldrick Tont Woods, but was nicknamed “Tiger” in honor of Earl’s friend Col. Vuong Dang Phong, who served in Vietnam. Woods is known as one of the greatest golfers of all-time, and one of the most famous athletes as well. Because of his accomplishments, he has been elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame, and it is rightly so that it’s Woods who earned the honor. Woods turned pro in 1996 at 20-years-old. Then, a magical moment happened in 2005 when Tiger won his third-green jacket at Augusta at the Master’s Championship. You’ve seen the images of Tiger’s chip-in at the 2005 Masters countless times. Father’s Death
Earl Woods suffered a heart attack at his house on May 3, 2006 in Cypress, California. He was then buried in a cemetery back in his birthplace of Manhattan, Kansas. Tiger Woods dedicated his performance at the 2006 Master’s Championship to his father. It was very rough for Tiger, as his dad taught him everything he needed to know about being a professional golfer. Well his tutelage worked as Tiger moved on, in 2019, Tiger finally won his fourth-green jacket at the Master’s since 2005.THE FIST PUMP IS BACK.
