Following the start of the coronavirus pandemic last year movies theaters around the country shut down. This shut down caused many movies to be pushed back and released in 2021. Many popular movies like Black Widow, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and Top Gun: Maverick were among some the movies that were set to release last year and were pushed back.

Some movies did end up releasing on streaming services like HBO Max, Netflix and Disney Plus. Now that 2021 has started there are many movies that are expected to be released this year in theaters.

In response to the current state of the world Warner Bros made an announcement on Dec.2 that all of their 2021 movies will be released in theaters and on HBO Max. The movies will remain on HBO Max for 1 month only but still will be available in theaters.

Warner Bros Chair and CEO of Warner Media Studios and Networks Group Ann Sarnoff made a statement on the reason why they decided to release all of their 2021 movies in theaters and on HBO Max

Sarnoff said,“We know new content is the lifeblood of theatrical exhibition, but we have to balance this with the reality that most theaters in the U.S. will likely operate at reduced capacity throughout 2021. With this unique one-year plan, we can support our partners in exhibition with a steady pipeline of world-class films, while also giving moviegoers who may not have access to theaters or aren’t quite ready to go back to the movies the chance to see our amazing 2021 films.”
