The American Music Awards aired live on Sunday, November 22nd and some of the biggest names in the industry took home awards. The show was live from The Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California with Taraji P. Henson hosting the show. The show followed COVID-19 safety protocols as it had a live audience and also maintained social distancing when artists’ were not wearing masks. Performers included Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, Katy Perry, The Weeknd, Jennifer Lopez, Maluma, and lots more. Taylor Swift Wins Artist of the Year

Taylor Swift accepted the biggest award of the night as she won, Artist of the Year. In that category, other big names in the music industry were nominated such as Justin Bieber, Post Malone, Roddy Ricch, and The Weeknd. Taylor was not able to attend the award ceremony in person but she did leave a message thanking her fans for the award. She also said she was in the studio rerecording her old music which made fans very excited to hear. Taylor also won other categories that night like Music Video of the Year and Favorite Female Pop Artist.

Cardi B Made History at the AMAs

Rapper, Cardi B, made history at the 2020 AMAs as she is the first artist in history to win Favorite Song in the Rap/ Hip-Hop category twice. Cardi accepted the award back in the AMAs in 2018 for her song, “Bodak Yellow.” This year, she won for her song, “WAP.”

When the presenter announced the winner of the award, Cardi B was not shown. She wasn’t there in person and there was no video message either.  However, she showed her loyalty and thanked her fans through Twitter. Cardi tweeted, “Thank you guys soooo much .Me and Meg really appreciate all the love from fans ,celebs everybody that supported the song,” she wrote. “Also thanks for voting .Ugh if I would have known all this was going down today I would of rescheduled my dentist appointment.Im so swollen. Cardi B also put out another tweet that included a voice message saying, “I wish I would’ve known that I was going to get an AMAs or something, I wouldn’t have went to the dentist and f—ed with my teeth. Now I’m all f—ing talking all crazy. But I just wanted to say thank you everybody. I love you so much.”


Justin Bieber opened the show with his two songs, “Lonely” and “Holy.” Afterwards, he was joined by Shawn Mendes to sing their song, “Monster,” on stage together. They just released their song a few days prior to the AMAs so fans were so excited when they announced the two were going to perform together on the same stage.

Billie Eilish gave fans the premiere performance of her latest hit song, “Therefore Iam.” She appeared on stage next to her brother, Finneas, who was wearing a face mask and played the guitar. During the end of her performance, Billie climbed a staircase, then fell backwards, as she disappeared in sight. Moments later, she reappeared on stage in another spot again which made fans think it was pretty creative of her to do.
