2021 has its first official “never saw that coming” but totally adorable couple – Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles! News broke yesterday that the pop star and actress are dating, and the two were recently photographed holding hands at a wedding. Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis End Engagement
The former couple, who were together for 8 years and engaged for 7, quietly split sometime in 2020. Olivia and Jason Sudeikis met at a finale party for Saturday Night Live in 2011 and were instantly smitten with one another (but didn’t officially date until months later). They went on to have two children and seemed to be a rock solid and loving pair. Sources say the breakup has been respectful and drama free. One source told People (in November), “The split happened at the beginning of the year. It’s been amicable and they’ve transitioned into a great co-parenting routine. The children are the priority and the heart of the family’s relationship.”
How Styles Met Wilde
This unexpected couple actually fell for one another in an old Hollywood cliche – as co-stars! It was reported in September that Styles was cast as one of the leading characters in Don’t Worry, Darling (he replaced the controversial Shia LaBeouf). The movie, directed by Wilde (she also acts in the film), takes place in the 1950s and features Florence Pugh as Harry’s character’s wife. Before casting him in her movie, Wilde admired Styles’ onscreen presence. The actress and director told Vogue that Styles’ acting in the movie Dunkirk “blew me away—the openness and commitment.”
Olivia Defends Harry From Haters
Wilde further praised Harry for his groundbreaking Vogue cover and photoshoot in December 2020, which featured the actor wearing skirts and dresses. Wilde mused, “To me, he’s very modern and I hope that this brand of confidence as a male that Harry has—truly devoid of any traces of toxic masculinity—is indicative of his generation and therefore the future of the world…It’s pretty powerful and kind of extraordinary to see someone in his position redefining what it can mean to be a man with confidence.” As CELEB reported, when conservative commentator Candace Owens harshly criticized Styles for his fashion choices, Olivia Wilde rushed to his defense and called Owens “pathetic.”
The Wedding Date!
Okay, so no wedding date yet for these new lovebirds, but they did go as each other’s dates to a wedding – and were photographed holding hands (while both managed to look impossibly gorgeous even with masks on). Last weekend the couple attended the small wedding of Harry’s manager, Jeffrey Azoff in Montecito, California. Sources say Styles actually officiated the nuptials. In the pictures that sent the Internet abuzz, Wilde is wearing a long, floral and lace dress and Harry is wearing a stylish black suit. The couple is holding hands and looking down (presumably to avoid the paparazzo’s camera lens). A source told People magazine, “They were affectionate around their friends, held hands and looked very happy. They have dated for a few weeks.”
Casually Dating Or Something More?
Skeptics may doubt that Styles and Wilde are the real deal. Jealous 1D fans are pointing out the couple’s age gap (she’s 36, he’s 26) and believe that for Wilde, perhaps this is merely a rebound romance.
